Viking wedding Iceland

Amanda and Brad's love story took an adventurous turn when they decided to exchange vows in a way that combined ancient traditions with the breathtaking beauty of Iceland's winter landscape. Leaving behind the warm and sunny shores of Florida, they embarked on a journey to the land of fire and ice to elope. Their quest for a unique and meaningful wedding led them to seek blessings for their union from the elves and to hold an Asatru ceremony on a black sand beach.

Asatru, derived from Old Norse, translates to "faith in the Æsir," referring to the principal gods of Norse mythology. In modern times, Asatru has experienced a revival as a pagan religious movement that honours the ancient Norse deities. Central to Asatru ceremonies are the rituals that mark significant life events, such as weddings, births, and funerals.

Iceland's landscape is nothing short of mesmerizing, with its rugged terrain, towering glaciers, and otherworldly black sand beaches. These beaches, formed from volcanic ash and lava fragments, provide a dramatic backdrop for any event. Amanda and Brad were drawn to the mystical ambience of these beaches, knowing it would add an ethereal quality to their wedding ceremony.

Planning a destination wedding in Iceland requires careful consideration of logistics and cultural customs. Amanda and Brad worked closely with local guides and wedding planners who understood the intricacies of organizing an Asatru ceremony and incorporating elven blessings. From choosing the ideal black sand beach location, every detail was thoughtfully curated to create a magical experience.

Standing on the black sand beach, surrounded by the sound of crashing waves and the sight of snow-capped mountains in the distance, Amanda and Brad exchanged vows in a ceremony that felt timeless. As they spoke their promises to each other, they felt the presence of the ancient gods and the benevolent spirits of the land.

Testimonial to Lisa, elopement photographer, from Amanda & Brad:

“Where do I start? The whole experience was absolutely incredible. Lisa was extremely helpful with the elopement planning. My husband and I live in Florida, and this was my first time doing international travel. Lisa helped with all of the steps along the way. She gave us different information about hotels in the area, airlines, and car rentals. We had numerous video chats, prior to leaving for Iceland, which was comforting to me. This was my first time doing a Google search, for something this important or special. I did my research on numerous elopement photographers’ websites, but I honest knew Lisa was the right person when I came across her website. She even helped us with picking the perfect officiant. My husband and I have been together for over 8.5 years, and we do things on our own time. We always knew we wanted to get married in Iceland, on a black sand beach. Lisa made our wildest dreams come true. Not a day has passed, where my husband and I have not thought about our wedding day. I felt like a Princess on my wedding day. Our pictures were even more breathtaking than we could have hoped for. Lisa gave us the best ideas for our poses, and she really went off of the vibes that my husband and I have as a couple. We really loved that Lisa has so many different packages. She is willing to work with the couple to make their day the best day it truly can be for them. I look at my wedding photos every day, and I know Lisa was the best person for the job. If someone wants a highly professional, personable elopement photographer, Lisa is your person. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life, so far. I wish I could post all of my wedding photos for her reviews. We were surprised by how prompt the photo delivery was. Now we have these memories that we can share with our family and friends.”
