ICELAND PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Iceland proposal photography

There are countless moments in life that you'd only want to remember. Your first kiss, meeting the love of your life, and proposing to your partner are all events that require a very special moment.

Planning a proposal overseas to another country can feel overwhelming. I’m here to make sure it will feel exciting and photograph the day that will make you laugh, emotional and cry happy tears.

If you ever find yourself in Iceland and thinking about proposing to your partner then this blog is for you.

Hi, I’m Lisa! Proposal photographer in Iceland.

I’m also a black-belt ninja who helps with planning and photographing proposals and guides you step by step with it.

A ninja who knows how to work in the landscapes without your soon-to-be spouse knowing that a proposal is about to happen!

You will have a new friend in Iceland who will make your day an unforgettable experience and help you craft it according to your values and needs. I will do the location scouting for you, create a timeline for your day and show you the local secrets of Iceland.

I have photographed for 9 years and I will be your support rock during your route to propose. I have worked in all weather conditions and I always have a plan B and c for your adventure.

Suprise proposal I have photographed:

  • Helicopter rides on snowy mountains

  • Ice cave and glacier tours

  • By waterfalls

  • On a black sand beach

  • Inside caves with spectacular views

Getting engaged in Iceland is for You. Him. Her. Them. They.

If you are looking for someone in Iceland, you better pray Lisa is available as she will blow your socks off.

I hired Lisa as a photographer in February 2024 to photograph my engagement in Iceland in May 2024. We live in Boston and had never been to Iceland before the week off.

Lisa was simply extraordinary and truly went above and beyond in every aspect. She left no stone unturned in the whole process, from the ideation phase of how I would propose, to suggesting locations, to coordinating our excursion to the ice caves, to sharing dozens of places to visit and restaurants to explore. We had a couple of hours of phone calls in advance and many emails, and she was very responsive, flexible and easy to communicate with.

Leading up to the big day she was sharing travel warnings with us, weather, reminders, and more! She even asked us if we would mind adding another stop to take more photos, all included.

For the day of, she travelled ~3 hours to the shoot location and we literally spent 8 hours together. She was funny and kind, yet professional and skilled.

The photos, a few attached, came out amazing and were edited and delivered virtually in a week, even earlier than we were expecting. We have worked with a couple of other photographers in the US and not only was it more expensive, but we were also left completely in the dark, rushed, and it took ages to get the pictures. If you are looking for someone in Iceland, you better pray Lisa is available as she will blow your socks off. And if that isn't enough, she loves cats and can communicate telepathically with the sheep of Iceland. She made our entire trip a fairytale and we are so grateful to have worked with and met her.

We had the pleasure of working with Lisa on our proposal in Iceland, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Lisa is a true professional who is incredibly thoughtful, proactive, and dedicated to her clients.

Her ability to plan and adapt to changing weather conditions was commendable, ensuring our safety and a stress-free experience. She listened to all of our requests and ideas, making us feel valued and heard. Her quick communication and disguised approach added an extra layer of surprise and authenticity to our special day.

The breathtaking photographs she captured were nothing short of extraordinary, capturing the natural beauty of Iceland and our love for each other. Lisa is not just a photographer, she's a partner in creating unforgettable moments.

We highly recommend Lisa to anyone seeking an adventure elopement photographer who goes above and beyond to make their special day perfect. Thank you, Lisa, for making our proposal in Iceland an experience we will always treasure.

I could not recommend Lisa enough as a photographer and a friend.

“My experience with Lisa was perfect from start to finish. She started off with a video chat where we could really get to know each other and discuss how to make the proposal special. From there, the various emails on how to prepare for Iceland really helped me plan our trip. She continued the communication on the proposal, giving me detailed instructions on where to stand, places to take photos nearby, what time of day to shoot, etc.

On the day of the proposal, she gave words of encouragement and made it so my fiancé didn't expect a thing when I got down on one knee. Once Jenna met Lisa and we started taking photos at different locations, Lisa made us both feel comfortable and gave great guidance. The photos turned out beautiful, our favourites were when we were in a grassy area by the beach and the whole area was filled with fog.

After we said our goodbyes, Lisa got us a sneak peek within a day and the rest of our photos within a week, an incredible turnaround which we appreciated. I could not recommend Lisa enough as a photographer and a friend.”

What to expect from proposing in Iceland.

If you’re willing to uproot your life, throw caution to the wind and run off to the most gorgeous country in the world — Iceland is your kind of place.

How you want to create the proposal is up to you and from several experiences to choose from! From proposing by a waterfall, under the northern lights, enjoying a picnic together or even hiking in the beauty of the highlands.

What to know about proposing in Iceland.

  1. If you plan on proposing under the northern lights, the best chance to see them is during September till April.

  2. Think beforehand about what you are going to say once you kneel to propose.

  3. Consider the location; should it be private or public? Some of the most visited locations in Iceland (Black Sand Beach and Seljalandsfoss for example) are heavily visited by tourists during summertime and can be filled out by tourists everywhere. Do you want the proposal to happen in an area where are only the two of you or would you mind popping the question around several people?

4. Remember to breathe. Anyone who proposes knows it will be a very exciting moment. Remember to take a couple of deep breaths to calm the nerves before popping out the question.

5. Expect the unexpected. Be prepared for Iceland's weather changes. Depending on the time of the year, there can be weather alerts and you need to postpone the proposal on being photographed.

What to wear while proposing in Iceland.

Curious about what to wear in your proposal? Iceland might hold the record for most days of rain per year, but you can still enjoy your day fully!

If you planning to keep the proposal as a complete surprise without having any couple pictures taken beforehand, make sure the clothes you have are waterproof because of the rains in Iceland.

If you have booked a couple of photographs and will be surprised with a proposal, then it’s easier to decide what clothes to wear.

Bring different outfits. If you want to change your outfits while we are switching locations, that is more than fine! Everybody has their own style and you can always send me photos of the outfits. It's important to keep you warm between the photos since Iceland's wind can be sometimes a bit chilly. Also, you can wear clothes that make you feel confident but with you can move easily.

Complement your outfits, don't only match. By using complementary colours, for instance, you can make the final look stronger. Use of the same colour family is also possible, but use different strengths in that case. In Iceland, colours like red, white and blue do pop out nicely.

Make sure you have waterproof shoes. Iceland is not made for high heels!

Plan out the details for your proposal in Iceland.

  • There are multiple ways to do your proposal in Iceland as there are places to get married.

Take a helicopter ride together. With a helicopter ride, you can access locations that would otherwise take hours to drive or hike to.

Enjoy a horseback ride. Icelandic horses are one of a kind.

Take a hike to the highlands of Iceland. If you both love hiking then you really need to check out the highlands!

Visit an ice cave together or do a glacier hike.

Have a picnic by a waterfall and enjoy the landscapes together.

  • Waterproof jackets and shoes, extra socks, sunglasses, reusable water bottle, rings, vows, the medication you might be needing, tissues

  • Visit the waterfall early in the morning or as last thing of the day.

Engaged couple photography

If you are currently looking for a photographer for your engagement/wedding look no further as Lisa is perfect!

I spotted Lisa’s work online as I was planning my proposal for my fiancée and was in awe of her portfolio. I reached out to Lisa, from Canada, and she made the planning process effortless. Through emails and Zoom calls, I felt confident in our teamwork to pull off this surprise. She always remained in contact with me up to the day and everything was planned out how I wanted. She worked with me to get the perfect location I had in mind. She was also extremely affordable for the services she was offering. I was surprised at her prices when I had already been in contact with a few other businesses in the area.

On the day of the proposal, Lisa was completely prepared, inconspicuously waiting for us to arrive at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and she captured that moment perfectly. My now Fiancé had no idea throughout the entire process even when Lisa was snapping photos of us.

Just when we thought we had hit the highlight of our day, Lisa and her knowledge of the area around Vik took us on an amazing adventure to get amazing shots: from waterfalls to glaciers, the cutest cafe called Skool Beans, the Yoda Cave and lastly the Black Sand Beach.

She truly made that day a magical experience and it wouldn’t have been the same without her. Her work is incredible and she is absolutely marvellous. Our pictures turned out beautifully. The both of us are so grateful that she was our photographer.”
