Proposal at Loftsalahellir in Iceland, Jenna & Brandon

Intimate Proposal at Loftsalahellir Cave in Iceland.

Proposing is a big deal, and for Brandon, opting for an Icelandic backdrop added an extra layer of cool to the occasion. If you're considering doing the same, here's a guide on how Brandon pulled off a proposal in Iceland, from planning to capturing those just-engaged shots on a foggy black sand beach.

Choosing Loftsalahellir Cave for the Proposal.

First things first – plan ahead. Iceland is more than just breathtaking landscapes; it's a place with its own set of challenges. Brandon took the time to research and understand the lay of the land. Here's how I helped him to plan the proposal:

  • Pick the Right Spot: Brandon opted for a cave. Iceland has plenty of them, each with its own unique charm. He chose a cave that would have a beautiful view in the background, considering that some might require a bit of a hike, and well, proposing halfway up a mountain isn't everyone's cup of tea.

  • Weather Watch: Iceland's weather is notorious for being unpredictable. Brandon kept a close eye on the forecast, ensuring he didn't pop the question in the middle of a rainstorm.

  • Logistics: Transportation, especially in remote areas, can be a challenge. Brandon made sure they had a reliable way to get to the cave and back. Customization: Brandon considered Jenna's preferences. He knew she wouldn't appreciate a grand public gesture, so the intimate cave setting was just right for them.

  • Ring Safety: Carrying a ring around can be nerve-wracking. Brandon chose a secure, yet easily accessible spot to keep the ring, avoiding any awkward fumbling when the moment arrived.

  • Backup Plans: Murphy's Law – if anything can go wrong, it will. Brandon had contingency plans for bad weather, unexpected closures, or any other hiccups that might come their way.

The Proposal Day: Brandon’s big question.

The big day arrived, and Brandon led Jenna into the cave. No elaborate speeches or dramatic gestures – he kept it authentic and heartfelt. The cave, with its natural acoustics, added a unique touch to the moment. No need for a fancy venue when Mother Nature provides the perfect setting.

Jenna, unsuspecting, was taken by surprise, and with the cave walls echoing the sincerity of Brandon's proposal, it was a moment that didn't need any embellishments. It was just them, a cave, and a promise for a future together.

After the "Yes," it was time for some post-engagement shots. Brandon chose a black sand beach – a moody and atmospheric backdrop that added a cinematic quality to their just-engaged pictures.

The fog created a soft and ethereal atmosphere, diffusing the sunlight and giving their photos a dreamlike quality. No need for elaborate setups or props – nature did the heavy lifting.

In the end, Brandon's proposal in Iceland was a testament to thoughtful planning and a focus on what truly matters. No need for extravagant gestures or clichéd settings – just a well-thought-out plan, a beautiful location, and, most importantly, a genuine commitment to each other. If you're considering an Icelandic proposal, take a page from Brandon's book and keep it straightforward, authentic, and memorable.

Brandon’s Testimonial: A Perfect Iceland Proposal Experience.

“My experience with Lisa was perfect from start to finish. She started off with a video chat where we could really get to know each other and discuss how to make the proposal special. From there, the various emails on how to prepare for Iceland really helped me plan our trip. She continued the communication on the proposal, giving me detailed instructions on where to stand, places to take photos nearby, what time of day to shoot, etc.

On the day of the proposal, she gave words of encouragement and made it so my fiancé didn't expect a thing when I got down on one knee. Once Jenna met Lisa and we started taking photos at different locations, Lisa made us both feel comfortable and gave great guidance. The photos turned out beautiful, our favourites were when we were in a grassy area by the beach and the whole area filled with fog.

After we said our goodbyes, Lisa got us a sneak peek within a day and the rest of our photos within a week, an incredible turnaround which we appreciated. I could not recommend Lisa enough as a photographer and a friend.”
