I’m Lisa, an experienced Iceland wedding and elopement photographer, dedicated to preserving the raw emotions, adventure, and beauty of your special day. Having worked with over 250+ couples, I specialize in creating timeless memories amidst Iceland’s stunning scenery—from black sand beaches to majestic waterfalls.

Lisa McWhirter — your Iceland-based adventure elopement photographer and unofficial hype woman, logistics wrangler, and windproof sidekick.
I live in Vík, a tiny town of under 800 people tucked between moody mountains and our very own black sand beach. Oh, and did I mention we also have our very own ice cave?! After nearly 4 years here, I’ve become the kind of person who happily hikes glaciers in sideways rain and calls it “a pretty nice day.”
Like many of my couples, I once stood at the crossroads between tradition and truth. Spoiler alert: I said no to the cookie-cutter version of love and found magic in elopements instead. Now, I help couples ditch the expectations and say hell yes to a wedding day that actually feels like them.
I’m also a full-on nerd gremlin. Think: Star Wars marathons (the originals<3), Hogwarts loyalty, Horror films, anime plot twists, and occasionally Doctor Who reruns because yes, I still believe in time travel.
Also in my heart? My two cats (they might pop into your online call) and lifting heavy weights in the gym.

Meet Ondrej — your other adventure-capturing badass.
Based in Vík (yes, the same dreamy black-sand-beach town I call home), Ondrej is my right-hand lens and a key part of the McWhirter Elopements team.
Whether he’s photographing a “yes!” moment by a waterfall or running stealth mode behind a lava field bush, this guy knows how to make epic feel effortless.
He’s calm under pressure, steady with a camera, and a total pro at catching raw, real emotion without ever getting in the way.
When he’s not out shooting? You’ll probably find him deep in Icelandic nature, or hiking into the highlands just because the sky looked good that day.
Basically — if I’m not available or we’re working as a duo? You’re in seriously good hands.

The Importance of Leaving No Trace & Sustainability
Leave no Trace ethics and sustainability are something that has a special place in our hearts and we follow it every day when I’m adventuring in Iceland and photographing couples in the landscapes of Iceland. Iceland is one of the most visited countries in the world, and tourism has shaped the landscapes a lot. Unfortunately, many places have been closed due to people not following the trails and doing illegal off-road driving. That has left a huge impact on nature that hasn’t recovered.
How will we bring Leave No Trace and sustainability to the elopements, weddings and proposals?
We follow and actively educate couples on Leave No Trace principles, making sure we avoid sensitive areas (like the moss) and respect local access rules.
We keep every shoot waste-free: no plastic confetti, no unnecessary packaging, no trash left behind. Always.
We work with local, small-scale vendors who care about Iceland’s landscapes and communities as much as we do. From super jeep drivers to florists to guides—we choose those who respect the land and treat people fairly.
We strive to run my business in a way that is transparent, low-impact, and constantly evolving toward better sustainability.
