6 questions to ask from your elopement photographer
You're engaged, so it's time to start looking for your photographer. This is an exciting and hectic time because there are so many questions on your mind. Will they capture the best moments during my big day? Will they be easy to get along with? Should I book a second shooter? How much will I need to book them for?
Finding your Iceland elopement photographer.
Choosing your elopement photographer can be a stressful thing. Especially since nowadays, there are more photographers than there ever have been before. All photographers have their own unique style to photograph and edit the images.
Then comes the time when you have found a potential photographer to figure out what to ask from them. There are a lot of blog posts out there telling what to ask from your photographer for example engagement photos included, wedding albums also included and what is the delivery time for the photos.
There are tons of photographers out there but they vary widely in terms of pricing, services, skill level and experience. Make sure you've done your homework before making your decision.
These six questions I’m sharing with you are very important and just by asking these six questions you can very well narrow down the elopement photographer that is right for you.
What is included in the elopement package and what isn’t? What are possible extra fees you would have to pay?
Before signing any contract, you need to make sure what is included in the elopement package and what isn’t. How much extra do you have to pay for an extra hour or even order a wedding album from your photographer? The package will differ depending on the photographer and location. So, do not be caught off guard and find out what you have to pay extra for before signing a contract with a photographer.
How well do you know the area we would be eloping in Iceland?
This is a very important safety question. Many photographers come to photograph in Iceland and don’t know about the safety things at all. For example, at Jökursalron (the diamond beach) they put the wedding couple's stand on an iceberg which you shouldn’t be doing. They can crack easily and you would fall. Or photographers do put the couples stand close to the sneaker waves at Reynisfraja.
Always check how well the photographer knows the pros and cons of the location where you would have your ceremony or portraits taken.
Is it possible to meet you online for our Iceland elopement?
The best way to know if the photographer is a match for you. How do you know if the photographer is right for you? There are several ways to figure it out before your first meeting and start to work together. But I think that the most important factor to consider is the personality and working style of the photographer.
The best way to know if the photographer is a match for you is having an online meeting with the photographer. You and the photographer will need to communicate, discuss, and interact about a lot of things, both before and after the wedding.
Ask for real client testimonials that have eloped in Iceland.
There are many ways to see what business is like on Google but one of the easiest is to go directly on a Google business page. They allow honest reviews and comments to be left by customers.
What is your communication and planning style before the elopement?
This is one of the most important things to ask from your photographer. I have unfortunately heard horror stories where the photographer doesn’t keep any contact with the wedding couple and suddenly sends a message a day before the wedding asking what time is the ceremony.
With wedding and elopement photographers having an on-off low season and busy season, sometimes you can have delays with communicating with your photographer. But it’s not normal not to have any communication at all.
Ask beforehand how the photographer usually communicates with the couples and what is their preferred communication channel.
If they offer elopement planning help, how is it done and how will it be provided? Will they offer consultation calls with you and how many?
What if someone else requests my date before I sign a contract?
Wedding and elopement photographers can get even 2-3 requests on their high season for one specific date. If you are not sure yet about signing up with your photographer, ask about how long will they keep the day open and what will happen if someone else requests your date.
I hope these questions help you to decide who your wedding or elopement photographer should be.
