Highlands elopement by a waterfall in Iceland | Jasmine & Ramiro

At the beginning of their wedding planning, Jasmine and Ramiro thought that a big wedding was the way to get married. After searching venues and getting sucked into overwhelming traditional wedding planning, they soon realized that this wasn’t for them. It didn’t feel the right way for them to get married after all. After carefully searching online and endless discussion they chose to elope. And to have their elopement in Iceland and travel from the US.

Jasmine & Ramiro’s elopement day was at the beginning of September and within just a couple of days of notice, the storm alerts were given. The autumn was truly on its way in Iceland. Unfortunately, the couple needed to have their dream activity for the day cancelled and we postponed the start of their photography session for hours, but nothing stopped them from having their elopement day.

As they stood at the edge of a rugged cliff overlooking a waterfall, they were greeted by strong winds that threatened to disrupt their plans. But rather than letting the weather dampen their spirits, this adventurous couple decided to embrace the elements and go with the flow.
They donned warm, windproof attire and exchanged vows against the backdrop of a roaring waterfall. When faced with unexpected challenges, they didn't let it deter them; instead, they embraced the winds of change and had their dream way of getting married.

After exchanging their vows, Jasmine and Ramiro read letters from their loved ones. Including letters from loved ones who couldn't be there physically helps connect you to a wider circle of friends and family, making them feel included in your special day.

When Iceland’s storms affect your elopement day.

Never ever disrespect the storm alerts when they tell you to adjust or cancel your travel plans. In Iceland, those alerts that only give you the option to cancel your travel plans and stay where you are is to keep you alive. That’s just how crazy the storms in Iceland can be. During those alerts, the roads will be closed and the local rescue teams will be making sure they are being kept closed as long as they need to be and to keep the tourist on not continuing their journey. Storms in Iceland can be so strong that they can even blow out buses off the roads.

Do not go for a short walk around your accommodation or to the nearest food store if the alert is to stay indoors. The cold wind can hit you pretty badly.

The storm alerts in Iceland are put into three different colours: green, orange, and red. Green means no storms and you've got to travel and have your elopement day in Iceland. Orange means that there are strong winds and the weather can be dangerous. Usually, during orange weather alerts, they do suggest adjusting your travel plans. When they give you a red alert that means a state of emergency; cancel your plans for the day and stay indoors.

Weather alerts are given usually from 4-2 days before the day and sometimes there has been a situation of getting them a day before.

If the storm alert appears a couple of days before your elopement day, you need to make the decision on whether will you postpone your day or move it to the area that doesn’t have the storm. For example, if you have planned to have your elopement day in South Iceland, you might want to consider to have at an area close to Reykjavik or to the western part of Iceland if there are weather alerts in the South.

Jasmine & Ramiro’s testimonial:

“Lisa made our day absolutely perfect. She was able to capture the intimacy, and our happiness, and created the most beautiful photos. Even when our plans had to change at the last minute due to the weather, we never felt stressed or overwhelmed; she guided us through it all. She is the sweetest and such an easygoing person; we felt so comfortable with her. She really made our Iceland elopement a fairytale come true and provided photos we will forever cherish. Thank you so much, Lisa.”
