Cave elopement in Iceland | Jess & Alejandro

When you decide to elope in Iceland there is one big thing you need to be aware of; the storms in Iceland and how they can affect your elopement day. While it’s not something anyone wants to think about, it’s important to have a plan in case the weather doesn’t cooperate. This was a thing that needed to be done with Jess and Alejandro's elopement day.

Why you need to have backup plans for your Iceland elopement.

It was raining heavily on their elopement day with strong winds reminding them that autumn storms were around the corner. The first thing you should do when planning an elopement to Iceland is to have a backup plan and you have to have it. This could mean having a day or two as backup days for your elopement day or having an indoor ceremony if you wish to have your elopement day happening on its actual day.

Here are some tips on why and how to stay flexible in such situations:

  • Safety First: Strong winds and heavy rain can make certain locations unsafe for an elopement. Prioritize safety over the perfect backdrop. Being flexible allows you to avoid risky conditions.

  • Embrace the Adventure: Iceland's weather is unpredictable and part of its charm. Embrace the adventure of finding new locations as you navigate the changing weather. It might lead to unexpected, stunning spots for your ceremony.

  • Scenic Alternatives: If your primary location is too windy or rainy, be open to nearby alternatives. Iceland is filled with breathtaking landscapes, and often, a beautiful spot is just around the corner.

  • Have Backup Plans: Prepare backup locations in advance. Research and identify multiple spots so that if the weather turns, you have options readily available without much stress.

  • Stay Adaptable: Be ready to change plans on short notice. Keep an open mind and remain flexible, as the weather in Iceland can change rapidly. This adaptability will help you make the most of your elopement experience.

  • Equipment and Attire: Ensure you have suitable attire and gear to withstand the weather. If the wind and rain are strong, having the right clothing and gear can make a significant difference in your comfort and enjoyment.

Reading out vows inside a cave.

Jess & Alejandro got to have an intimate vows reading where they were the only ones in the moment, sharing their vows with each other even though the wind was pushing strongly outside the cave. In this intimate bubble, Jess and Alejandro shared promises, their voices rising above the elements.

Testimonial from Jess & Alejandro:

“Lisa is incredible! Planning an overseas elopement can be quite nerve-wracking but Lisa helped ease any anxieties we may have felt. From bridal floral services to car rental insurance, Lisa was always an email or video chat away to help us plan the most magical day.

While we planned our wedding day photo locations well in advance with Lisa, Iceland had some other plans in store for us! The weather was too intense to go to any of our planned locations so, Lisa immediately pivoted and provided multiple backup locations and safety precautions. We were so impressed with Lisa’s wonderful balance of professionalism and friendliness as she guided us through quite an adventurous day! She constantly checked on our well-being and made sure we were warm, happy, and safe every step of the way.

Lisa really went the extra mile to put our day together. She was beyond helpful with reaching out to multiple vendors and referring us to Thordis Flowers, Baked in Reykjavík, and the Hair and Makeup Agency, all of which were gorgeous!

Thank you for not only making our day incredible but also capturing all of the magical moments to be cherished and remembered forever.”
